Oliver's London
The Victorian Era was the time when queen Victoria ruled over England, it lasted from 1837-1901. Some people called it the period of peace. But Britain had war almost every year. Child labor was what made the Victorian Era famous. Parents would drop their children of to work and they would stay their for the day and orphans had no choice. The kids were forced to work long hours and low wages to help the family gain money. So basically everyone in the family was working. It was 16 grueling hours for any age 4 to around 30 but most people died by 25. They worked as chimney sweepers, errand boys, crossing sweepers, or shoe blacks. Or you could work as an apprentice a builder or a domestic servant. Builders worked 64 hours a week in the summer and 52 in the winter, while domestic servants worked 80 hours a week in the summer and winter. child prostitution was also an option.
